Voodoo Labs Power Supply

This is for guitarists who use effects pedals?

Why on earth would any guitarist waste $150 or more on a power supply such as the Voodoo Labs Pedal Power, or dunlop dc brick, when you could buy this, http://www.guitarcenter.com/Visual-Sound-1-SPOT-Combo-Pack-104489125-i1275625.gc . it powers the same amount of pedals, is 1/10 the size, is expandable, and can even power old pedals without the 9v jack. its there something wrong with it? it almost seem too good to be true!

Well, to each their own. Some people just need a power supply, and some people want a little something extra.... if you read the description of what the voodoo pedal power does, for instance, you have to acknowledge that it does a lot more in regards to power supply than the One Spot does.

The One Spot is a glorified power strip, basically. The Pedal Power has isolated outs (so no chance for ground loop hum through power supplies, which is a frustrating thing to happen to you, if you've ever experienced it), filters the power to keep it clean (some effects are very susceptible to sounding bad or not working as well as you'd like or simply being noisy when fed dirty power), and not only is the voltage regulated, but you can tailor it to deliver voltage that emulates the sound of a dying battery (highly desirable some times). Regulated, by the way, means that the power is *always* 9v, or whatever, even if the power fluctuates... which can happen if the power isn't up to code, or is experience surges, etc. (like at some clubs, power can be really iffy)

If you don't need power filtering and don't need isolated outputs, the One Spot is a great little adapter. But there's a reason why the higher priced stuff exists - if I had effects that didn't have good filtering or were susceptible to hum or noise, then yeah, I'd definitely invest in some power filtering!
