Marshall Jim Marshall - The Father of Loud Book $29.95 When music store owner and drum teacher Jim Marshall set to work designing an amp to realize the musical vision of local guitarists, he laid the very foundations of rock music. After playing the sixth prototype of 'Number 1', which would later become the JTM45, Jim said, "That's it! That's going to be the Marshall sound from now on!" And so it was. Since the 1960s Marshall amps have been the first choice of rock's greatest guitarists. The entire Jim Marshall story is told in the authorized biography Jim Marshall: The Father of Loud, by Rich Maloof (published by Backbeat Books), which features a foreword written by guitar hero and personal friend of Jim's—Slash. The tale is a captivating one, broken down into 2 main parts. The first section traces Jim's story from childhood as a young boy diagnosed with a rare bone disease to his stage success as a singer and big-band drummer, onto the development of the iconic Marshall stack and Marshall's rise to prominence in the amplifier industry. It profiles a man dedicated to listening to his customers and inventing new ways of satisfying them, constantly improving and fine-tuning his designs and, from the beginning, a believer in the value of teamwork. The second half of the book delves into the amplifiers themselves, including a well-illustrated section on amp anatomy, with inside shots of the amps, plus a Top 11 list of Jim's favorite models over the years. There's a tour of the factory, a fascinating collection of comments from Marshall owners, detailed rig diagrams of 6 Marshall greats from the 1960s to the 2000s, and other Marshallabilia that will please Marshall owners and guitarists of all ages. There's also a view of Marshall in the 21st century, and an appendix on dating Marshall amps by serial number. Now in his eighth decade, Jim is still pursuing his goal of bringing musical visions to life, on a worldwide scale. This book honors the man and encourages the reader to do the same - most importantly, by pursuing their own musical dreams. |

Selecting the preamp sound you want is as simple as choosing one of the 16 sounds from the rotary preamp control. This section has been divided into 4 separate groupings for ease; Clean, Crunch, OD, and Lead. From there, all you have to do is set up your EQ section and choose and adjust which of the high-quality effects you desire. Storing this sound is just a case of holding down one of the 4 channel buttons on the amp or saving to the foot controller, storing everything from the EQ to the parameter of chosen effect. It also boasts more gain than any other Marshall to date—and that's really saying something. Each of its 2 channels are completely independent of each other, and they boast 3 Modes, all 6 of which are footswitchable and feature their own unique gain structure. It makes the JVM 2-channel effectively 6 Marshalls in one.The JVM210H has studio-quality digital reverb with a level control for each channel. This is also footswitchable, as are the amp's 2 Master Volume controls and the Series/Parallel effects loop. Resonance and Presence are equipped with master controls. An ingenious footswitch (UK patent pending) and the fact all the amp's switching (channel/modes, Reverb, Master Volume selection, FX loop) can be done via MIDI and you're looking at an incredibly flexible amp. The 4-way footswitch boasts LEDs and memory, plus it connects to the amp via a regular guitar cable. From the cleanest clean to the filthiest distortion ever found in a Marshall and all points in-between, the JVM210H all-valve amp head will give you whatever tone you need right when you need it. |

For instance, have you ever wondered what a 1974 preamp would sound like through a monster 100W tube stage with a hint of reverb for ambience? The JMD102 combo lets you do that. Do you want to try a Guv'nor pedal through the power of a Marshall 50/50 power amp and a hi-fi style delay? The JMD102 lets you do that too. What makes this Marshall combo amp so adaptable and versatile, is that it is completely programmable, allowing you to store your sounds and then access them again with ease.Marshall's delicate balance between technology and tone Instead of trying to mimic the overall sound of an amplifier by simply creating a copy of the tone that is generated, the Marshall JMD102 amplifier takes into account every nuance of a preamp. Not only recreating the tone accurately, but also how the unit reacts when you make adjustments to the equalization. The familiar Marshall front panel is extensive in features and easy to navigate. Selecting the preamp sound you want is as simple as choosing one of the 16 sounds from the rotary preamp control. This section has been divided into 4 separate groupings for ease of use; Clean, Crunch, OD, and Lead. From there, all you have to do is set up your EQ section and choose and adjust which of the quality effects you desire. Storing this sound is just a matter of holding down one of the 4 channel buttons on the amp or saving to the footcontroller, storing everything from the EQ to the parameter of chosen effects. So now you're able to go from a classic low-wattage tube sound with a hint of reverb; to a traditional high-gain '80s lead sound with delay for solos; to a scooped-out metal sound, incorporating chorus with the press of a button.Marshall Custom FX The effects section of the JMD102 guitar a |
