Gibson Hummingbird Guitar
Gibson Hummingbird Guitar

which guitar to choose?
I'm a lefty debating over a Taylor 615ce which was my original choice or a Gibson hummingbird not vintage or anything. which one do u prefer? I like the sound of both. I have never actually played a Gibson hummingbird but will hopefully soon. are their bodies that big?
The Taylor is an infinitely better guitar. It's a better shape and offers a much more balanced tonal range. The Hummingbird is another lousy dreadnought. The only thing distinctive about it is the pickguard, which as it happens is grotesquely ugly.
The Taylor 615 is a jumbo, which is a different shape but more or less the same overall volume as the dread. If it's too big, try the 614 or 612, which are smaller and also wonderful guitars.
For a few hundred dollars more than the Taylor you can get a Collings OM2H or a Santa Cruz 000. Those are seriously better than either of your two choices.

Gibson Hummingbird TV VOS $3899 The Gibson Hummingbird True Vintage VOS Acoustic takes us back to the subtle glamour of the original 1960 guitar. Enhancements include split-parallelogram, mother-of-pearl fingerboard inlays; crown headstock inlay; and an elaborate 3-point tortoise pickguard with engraved hummingbird motif. This beauty wears a solid premium Sitka spruce top with special cherry burst finish that matches the finish on the first run of Hummingbird guitars. Built to the square shoulder dreadnought body styling that evolved out of the earlier, more rounded-shoulder profiles of guitars such as the J-35 and J-45, the Gibson Hummingbird is still a big-bodied flattop at 16 1/4"-wide across the lower bout. The Hummingbird carved a niche for itself as a particularly punchy yet smooth folk and rock-and-roll rhythm guitar as a result. The Hummingbird is the acoustic guitar that was used by the likes of Keith Richards, Marc Bolan, Sheryl Crow, John McLaughlin, and Jimmy Page. The Hummingbird captures a measure of the pastoral whimsy and brave new horizons of the 1960s—along with a solid chunk of woody acoustic tone.Gibson is releasing only 167 of the VOS Hummingbird acoustic guitars. |

Gibson Sheryl Crow Acoustic Guitar $2399 The Gibson Sheryl Crow Signature Artist Series Acoustic-Electric Guitar has a body similar to Gibson's J-45 slope-shoulder dreadnought, but with wider, square-shoulder accents on the upper bout. The radius top projects a full, balanced expression, with blended dark lows and brilliant highs. In 1999, Sheryl Crow brought her beloved 1962 Gibson Country Western to Gibson Acoustic and asked for an identical replica with modern appointments, worried that her favorite acoustic would soon succumb to the rigors of the road. Gibson responded in kind with the introduction of the new Sheryl Crow Signature Artist Series guitar—essentially a painstaking recreation of Crow's Country Western, but also a variation of Gibson's renowned Hummingbird. Nickel Gotoh White Oval Button Tuner Gibson's Sheryl Crow Signature Artist Series features Gotoh's white oval button tuners. With a gear ratio of 15:1, these Gotoh tuners deliver precision tuning in a durable housing that provides maximum protection for the gear and string post. All moving parts are cut for exact meshing, eliminating the possibility of slippage, with a special lubricant inside the gear box for smooth and accurate tuning stability. Gibson Crown Peghead Logo Gibson put the first crown peghead logo on an ES-300 back in 1940, and it has graced the headstocks of many legendary Gibson guitars ever since, including today's Sheryl Crow Signature Artist Series. Over the years, it has also been called a "thistle" because of the group of flowering plants with the sharp prickles, though Gibson has preferred to call it a "crown."Gibson Pickguard The yellow tortoise pickguard on the Sheryl Crow Signature Artist Series is patterned after the shape of the pickguard on Gibson's Hummingbird. As with all Gibson's pickguards, the coloring, inlay, binding, and engraving are done by hand. Rosette A rosette is the beautiful, hand-crafted circle around the soundhole, and can be one of the most ornamental elements of any acoustic guitar. It is also one of the most subtle and complicated woodworking decorations on any acoustic guitar. The Gibson Sheryl Crow Signature Artist Series features a double-ring rosette, with the main ring consisting of seven-ply binding, and the second ring three-ply binding, adding a stylish, understated elegance to the Sheryl Crow Signature guitar.Rosewood Fingerboard with Rolled Edges and Split Parallelogram Inlays The fingerboard of Gibson's Sheryl Crow Signature Artist Series is constructed from the highest-grade rosewood on earth, which is personally inspected and qualified by Gibson's team of skilled experts before it enters the Gibson factories. The resilience of this durable wood makes the fingerboard extremely balanced and stable, and gives each chord and note unparalleled clarity and bite. The Sheryl Crow's split parallelogram inlays are made of genuine mother of pearl, and are inserted into the fingerboard using a process |

Gibson Songwriter Special Acoustic-Electric Guitar Ebony $1899 Based on the Gibson "Square Shoulder" Hummingbird series of guitars, you know right away that the new Gibson Songwriter Special has the right DNA. To improve the breed even further, Gibson uses the vintage-style "wide-X" top bracing on this guitar for that warm, powerful, "old Gibson" sound. To bring the guitar up to the 21st century, Gibson has refined the neck profile to make it slimmer and faster. They've also built in an L.R. Baggs pickup for those times you need to "plug in."The Songwriter Special uses all solid wood construction Solid imported Honduran mahogany for the back and sides, solid Sitka spruce for the top. The neck is one piece mahogany too for added stability. The vintage-style "wide X" top bracing allows for greater top movement, and much improved projection. The bracing is scalloped by hand to keep weight down, and adding strength at the same time. This combination of tonewoods and bracing design makes for a powerful, yet very articulate sound. The factory installed pickup is the highly respected L.R. Baggs Element with a convenient soundhole rim mounted volume control. The pickup delivers a rich, "natural" sound, much smoother than many other "acoustic-electric" pickups. The guitar/pickup combo responds well to all playing styles and needs from vigorous flatpicking to soft chordal strums. The Indian rosewood fingerboard is graced by Gibson's "floret" inlays, and design that dates back to the famed Gibson banjos of the 30s. The bridge is Indian rosewood as well. The guitar is finished in a gorgeous ebony lacquer finish, not the cheaper polyurethane finish used on most other guitars at this price. To top off the guitar's good looks are a subtle top binding, bound pickguard, and a beautiful abalone rosette around the soundhole. This guitar is shipped complete with a custom fit, hardshell case. |
