Gibson Guitars USA

Are Gibson Electric Guitars made in China nowadays?
I read an online article that indicated that some Gibson electric guitars are actually made, largely, in Chinese factories before tey are "finished off" here in the U.S. Is this true? I grew up believing Gibsons were made in the USA!
True. But that is the same with just about any guitar brand. You just have to make sure they say "Made in the USA", because the majority of them aren't. The ones made in America are usually of higher price and quality.

Gibson Limited Run Tribal V Electric Guitar Satin White $1499 The Limited Run Tribal V Electric Guitar takes the classic Flying V format to the next level, delivering an instrument honed for the contemporary player with all the time-honored features of the original. Clearly the most identifiable part of the Tribal V is its V-shaped mahogany body. The body is also set in a Satin White finish with a distinct Tribal art pattern design to accent the guitar's electronics and traditional lines, making it one of the most eye-catching vs Gibson USA has ever produced. The Tribal art pattern design also appears on the guitar's headstock, which remains true to the unique, pointed headstock found on the original Flying V. The neck is also the traditional Flying V neck, which is a hybrid of the standard '50s rounded contour and the '60s slim-taper profile. Each Tribal V comes equipped with the industry's ultimate tremolo system—the Kahler 2215K from Kahler USA. This black chrome stud mount tremolo system features individual fine tuners; a brass cam and stainless steel saddles that deliver enhanced sustain and harmonics; and a warm, rich overall tone. Add the muscle of uncovered Gibson 496R and 500T humbucker pickups and you end up with one scorching and timeless rock and roll classic. The Tribal V Limited Run Series from Gibson USA is restricted to just 350 guitars, and all of them come with a black Gibson hardshell case with white interior and silkscreened Gibson USA logo and a special certificate of authenticity.A certain aura of mystique has always surrounded the legendary Gibson Flying V. Ever since its introduction in 1958, the Flying V has remained the ultimate symbol of rock and roll rebellion. And although it wasn't fully embraced until the hard rock and heavy metal movements of the late '60s and early '70s, the guitar's intense magnetic appeal, powerful sound and unusually familiar shape have made it one of the most instantly recognizable guitars in the world. |

Gibson Limited Run Grabber II Bass Satin Ebony¹ $1915 Gibson's Limited Run Grabber II bass stays true to many details of the model's original production years of 1973-75, such as its arrow-shaped, Flying V-inspired headstock, bell-shaped truss rod cover, and Gibson-designed sliding humbucking pickup. This specialized pickup allows players to slide the pickup between the end of the neck and the bridge and fine-tune the frequency response of the instrument. The Grabber II's 34-1/2" scale length also remains identical, yielding the same low, resonant response as the original model. The large shamrock button tuners and chunky, three-point adjustable bridge are back as well, as is the simple one-volume, one-tone control setup. The Grabber II also emulates the original in its use of a thin maple body—as used on the first Grabbers until the change to alder wood in 1975—which contributes to the bass' excellent tonal clarity and punch. It also utilizes Gibson's traditional glued-in set maple neck with a 20-fret rosewood fingerboard, which enhances the bass' tonal quality and sustain. All in all, this "rediscovered" Gibson bass offers the heavy, rocking tones of the '70s in an instrument crafted for 21st century playability. Each Grabber II comes with its own Limited Series Run customized certificate of authenticity and a black Gibson hardshell case with plush white interior and silkscreened Gibson USA logo. The introduction of the original Gibson Grabber bass in 1973 caught the attention of bassists around the world. Its sleek design was matched ever so smoothly with its thick, heavy and well-defined tone. Thousands of players found its blend of simplicity and versatility very hard to ignore, including the likes of Gene Simmons of Kiss, Green Day's Mike Dirnt, and Krist Novoselic of Nirvana. The model has been out of the Gibson catalog since 1982, but it is back again—briefly—thanks to the introduction of the Grabber II, now available as part of Gibson USA's Limited Run Series guitars. |

Gibson Joan Jett Blackheart Electric Guitar Satin Ebony $920 Carefully developed in close cooperation with Jett herself, the Gibson Joan Jett Blackheart Melody Maker guitar features a lightweight, slab mahogany body with a satin ebony finish.Slim, double-cutaway mahogany body From its initial launch in 1959, the Gibson Melody Maker was known for its single-cutaway design similar in profile to Gibson's iconic Les Paul Standard. The double-cutaway design on the Joan Jett Melody Maker was first introduced in 1962, then changed again in 1966 to a style similar to the revered Gibson SG, with pointed horns and beveled edges.Custom designed slim-tapered neck profile The neck profile on the Gibson Joan Jett guitar, however, is crafted to the same specs as Jett's original electric guitar—a slim-taper profile similar to the Gibson Les Paul guitars and SGs of the mid to late 1960s. Add Gibson's Worn White finish to the back of the neck and the Melody Maker Joan Jett signature guitar neck is one of Gibson's most comfortable and playable.Grover Gibson Les Paul-style mini tuners These classic, innovative tuners offer the same design and ease of use as the original tuners on Gibson's Melody Makers from the early 1960s. The smaller buttons on the Joan Jett guitar afford more space for the fingers to tune the strings, the tuner housing is completely sealed, and a gear ratio of 14:1 delivers excellent performance and tuning accuracy to match the vintage Les Paul look.Single Gibson Burstbucker 3 Zebra humbucker Gibson USA's Melody Maker Joan Jett signature guitar features a single Gibson Burstbucker 3 humbucker that captures the raw punch and power of the rare Velvet Hammer aftermarket humbucker on Joan Jett's original guitar. The Burstbucker 3 debuted in 1990, and represents Gibson's drive to capture and recreate the characteristics of the vintage "Patent Applied For" humbuckers of the late 1950s. "Kill" toggle switch With only one pickup, the Double Cutaway Joan Jett Melody Maker electric guitar features a 'Kill' toggle switch, which effectively switches between the hot signal from the pickup and the ground signal, successfully 'killing,' or turning off the signal from the pickup when activated. Joan Jett uses this control to shut off her guitar when singing and not playing, or as an effect during a song. Satin ebony finish Applying a satin nitrocellulose finish to any Gibson guitar—including the Joan Jett Melody Maker—is one of the most labor-intensive elements of the guitar-making process, yielding some very satisfying results. This unique finish gives the Gibson Joan Jett Melody Maker the look and feel of a truly vintage electric guitar, also making it extremely playable and comfortable. |

Dtar Sadducer for Nylon String Guitars $80.5 The D-TAR Sadducer under-saddle-transducer for acoustic guitars uses 6 discrete piezo crystals—one for each string. Discrete piezo crystals have better string-to-string balance and offer increased responsiveness to a nylon string guitar top's vibrations for great tone. The result is a high-output pickup designed for even frequency response. High output response eliminates the need for expensive on-board electronics to boost signal. The D-TAR Sadducer is exceptional for melody players, especially guitarists who play over the entire fingerboard. But perhaps the biggest benefit is that, unlike other piezo pickups, the Sadducer has lower output impedance and does not require a built-in or off-board preamp to boost and smooth the signal. That means no batteries required. This nylon string pickup is optimized for acoustic guitars with string spacing of 2.25" to 2.42" (57 to 61.5mm). The Sadducer pickups thin height and narrow width permits optimal saddle placement in the bridge slot—generally without a need to modify the slot. The D-TAR Sadducer under saddle pickup accommodates both 1/8" and 3/32" saddles. D-TAR - Duncan/Turner Acoustic Research Seymour Duncan and Rick Turner are two legends who spent years working with musicians, perfecting their tone. Seymour founded his self-named company in 1978 which has become well-known for its wide variety of guitar and bass pickups used by just about every name player from Billie Joe Armstrong to Angus Young. Rick co-founded Alembic, was president of Gibson Labs West Coast R&D Division, co-founded Highlander Musical Audio making piezo acoustic guitar pickups for Lindsay Buckingham, Ry Cooder, David Lindley, and Andy Summers, and runs his own Renaissance Guitars. Now Seymour and Rick are working together to create innovative products for acoustic musicians. Their D-TAR motto: "With respect to acoustic tone." |

Gibson Custom Robbie Krieger SG VOSÿElectric Guitar Aged Dark Heritage Cherry $3399 The Robby Krieger 1967 SG VOS (Vintage Original Specs) Electric Guitar from Gibson Custom blends several features from some of Krieger's favorite SG's into one stunning new model. Made of traditional solid mahogany, the body of the Krieger SG is typical of the thin SG bodies from the mid 1960s, complete with traditional beveled edges and the distinct dual sharp cutaway horns that give players complete access to the guitar's full 22-fret rosewood fingerboard. The body is then finished in Krieger's personal favorite Aged Dark Heritage Cherry finish, which is very similar to the finish of his beloved 1967 SG Standard, and historically accurate right down to the tiniest scratches, dings and belt rash. The neck is also a typical SG one-piece mahogany neck, but with a hybrid neck profile modeled after the neck on a 1961 Gibson SG owned by a close friend and the neck on his personal '67 SG Standard. In order to duplicate his signature sound Krieger chose a pair of Gibson's renowned '57 Classic humbucker pickups. Gibson's original "Patent Applied For" humbuckers of the mid- to late-1950s &mdash: some of the most sought after pickups in the world &mdash: were wound using imprecise machines, resulting in pickups with slightly different output and tone, and desirable to players who wanted to mix and match and explore a complete spectrum of tonal possibilities. The '57 Classic pickups are the result of Gibson's drive to capture and recreate this renowned characteristic. Krieger's signature sound comes through clearly in a warm, full tone with a balanced response, packing all the tremendous "PAF" humbucker crunch expected from a Gibson humbucker. Everything else on the new Inspired By Krieger SG is classic Gibson SG Standard, including the ABR-1 Bridge and Maestro tailpiece tremolo system, nickel hardware, 22-fret rosewood fingerboard with figured acrylic trapezoid inlays, and vintage tulip tuners. The new Inspired By Robby Krieger SG Standard is destined to become of the most popular SGs ever produced by Gibson Custom, Gibson VOS guitars receive a nitrocellulose lacquer finish like many other Gibson Custom Shop and Gibson USA guitars, but the process on the VOS models has been revised to reflect the way Gibson finished these guitars back in the day. They receive a thinner lacquer finish, which is applied, sanded, and buffed differently— which is to say, more accurately. This not only gives the instruments a look more like a gently aged and well-cared-for vintage guitar, but helps the guitars "breathe," and therefore to resonate more freely. The Robby Krieger 1967 SG VOS will only be produced in a very limited run of 100 with Gibson Custom's V.O.S. finish treatment. Each guitar will come with its own Gibson Custom case and a certificate of authenticity signed personally by Krieger. |

Dtar Sadducer for Steel String Guitars $80.5 The D-TAR Sadducer Under-Saddle Transducer for Steel String acoustic guitar uses 6 discrete piezo crystals, one for each string. Discrete piezo crystals have better string-to-string balance and offer increased responsiveness to your guitar top's vibrations for great tone. The result is a high-output pickup designed for even frequency response. High output response eliminates the need for expensive on-board signal boosting electronics. The D-TAR Sadducer is exceptional for melody players, especially guitarists who play over the entire fingerboard. But perhaps the biggest benefit is that, unlike other piezo pickups, the Sadducer has lower output impedance and does not require a built-in or off-board preamp to boost and smooth the guitar's signal. That means no batteries required. The steel string version is optimized for guitars with string spacing of 2.04" to 2.30 (51.8 to 58.4mm) at the bridge. The Sadducer's thin height and width permits optimal saddle placement in the bridge slot—generally without the need to modify it. The S-Tar steel string Sadducer pickup accommodates both 1/8" and 3/32" saddles. D-TAR - Duncan/Turner Acoustic Research Seymour Duncan and Rick Turner are two legends who spent years working with musicians, perfecting their tone.
