Alnico V Pickups
Alnico V Pickups

What type of magnet does a Jackson JE10 humbucking pickup have?
Alnico V? Ceramic? Does anyone know for sure?
I'm inclined to believe its ceramic, since its a stock pickup... ceramic is less expensive and tends to be geared towards the more aggressive and higher output crowd.
Can't say for certain. Google gave me no answers. =)

Seymour Duncan APH-2s Slash Alnico II Pro Humbucker Set Black $189.95 The Seymour Duncan APH-2s Alnico II Pro Slash Humbucker Electric Guitar Pickup Set honors guitar hero Slash with his first signature pickups. The tone of this pickup set will be familiar to anyone who has heard Slash's recorded tone. Though he has dozens of amazing guitars, since 1986 Slash has pretty much used one very special Les Paul for all of his recordings. The Alnico II Pro Slash was designed to give Slash's other Les Paul guitars (what he calls his "live guitars") the exact tone of his legendary guitar.Like the standard APH-1 Alnico II Pro, which Slash has used for years, the Slash APH-2 set uses Alnico 2 magnets. However, the Alnico II Pro Slash is wound with just enough boosted output to push a stock Les Paul toward the sweet sustain and rude crunch that characterize Slash's sound. In addition, Seymour Duncan enhances the APH-2 pickups with some of the same appointments found on the Duncan pickups seen in Slash's '86 recording axe: a single-conductor cable, a long-legged bottom plate, and a wooden spacer. For true fans, or for players who want to capture Slash's recorded tone, these Seymour Duncan pickups are a critical part of the tone chain. These are same pickups found in the newest Gibson Slash model Les Paul guitar. With the ubiquitous top hat and shades, a mop of black curls obscuring his face, and a blazing electric guitar tone blasting through a wall of amps, Slash epitomizes the very reasons we first air-strummed a low-slung tennis racquet in the privacy of our bedroom. For over 3 decades Slash has relied on Seymour Duncan pickups for his guitar tone.Applications: Warm, moderate-output humbucker. Recommended for jazz, blues, and classic rock.Complete setup: The Slash aficionado will use a pair of these pickups to capture that unmistakable tone. This pickup matches well with the SFX-11 Twin Tube Blue all-tube overdrive-distortion stompbox (sold separately) for singing leads and authoritative chording.Guitars: While designed for use in a Les Paul, this pickup works well in any well-balanced humbucker-equipped guitar. Also works great with hollow and semi-hollow body guitars. The Alnico II Pro Slash is hand built in Seymour Duncan's Santa Barbara, California workshop and includes all mounting hardware. Recommended for the neck and bridge position. |

EMG EMG-SAV Alnico Single Coil Active Pickup White $79 The SAV is an overwound single coil pickup with hidden Alnico 5 pole pieces for tons of output and punchy attack. EMG has worked with Steve Lukather for over 13 years now and the latest result is the EMG-SAV active pickup. Steve's playing style and writing have produced several Grammy's that EMG is proud to be a part of. They'll develop just about anything Steve wants (within reason) and that's just what happened when Ernie Ball was revising the "Luke" Guitar. Steve along with Dudley Gimpel from Ernie Ball figured they'd try some new things on the Luke. Dudley told EMG they were trying pickups from other makers and they had to deliver something great to stay in contention.EMG developed the SAV and added their own special touch. The windings were increased for a meatier tone and they hid away the pole pieces for a more uniform look to the instrument (see the SL20 Pro-Series). Steve has always played a specially overwound SA pickup, so EMG used the original preamp from the SA pickup with flat Alnico 5 pole pieces hidden under the cover cap. The SA preamp gives the SAV its classic EMG sound while the flat poles put the pickup closer to the strings for more output and a punchier attack. The current EB Luke Guitar uses the model spec'd by Steve EMG calls the SLV. Package Includes: EMG's exclusive Quik-Connect cable, prewired split shaft volume/tone control set, output jack, battery clip set, screws & springs. |

However, the Alnico II Pro Slash humbucker is wound with just enough boosted output to push a stock Les Paul guitar toward the sweet sustain and rude crunch that characterizes Slash's sound. In addition, Seymour Duncan enhances the APH-2b bridge pickup with some of the same appointments found on the Duncan pickups seen in Slash's '86 recording axe: a single-conductor cable, a long-legged bottom plate, and a wooden spacer. For true fans, or for players who want to capture Slash's recorded tone, the APH-2b pickup is a critical part of the tone chain. This is the same pickup found in the newest Gibson Slash model Les Paul guitar.Though he has dozens of amazing guitars, since 1986 Slash has used pretty much one very special Les Paul for all recording. The Alnico II Pro Slash pickup was designed to give Slash's other Les Paul guitars (what he calls his "live guitars") the exact tone of his legendary recording guitar. With the ubiquitous top hat and shades, mop of black curls obscuring his face, and a blazing electric guitar tone blasting through a wall of amps, Slash epitomizes the very reasons we first air-strummed a low-slung tennis racquet in the privacy of our bedroom. For over 3 decades he has relied on Seymour Duncan pickups for his guitar tone. Applications: Warm, moderate-output humbucker. Recommended for the bridge position. |
